U.S. Soccer birth year change has two minor obstacles at U15 and U18, EDP have come up with solutions for both and these make the most sense.

1) U15 Age Group
At this age group the older half of the team i.e. Jan - Aug will be Freshman in H.S., the Sept - Dec players at Middle School. EDP will be doing a U15 Fall season which means our Jan - Aug Freshman will be able to play club ball with their team on weekends and HS during the midweek or the Freshman may for-go playing HS soccer and play club only. It will depend on the individual team and what the majority of the Freshman decide they are doing. Either way all players will maintain their weekly training and games, its only a 3 month disruption over a 14 year youth playing career. If the majority of HS players play for their HS teams, the 8th graders will be able train with the U14 team twice a week and play with their U15 team on weekends with their HS team mates @ U15.

2) U18 Age Group
At this age group the older half of the team i.e. January - August will have graduated and off to college. The Aug-Dec players will play with the age group below so the U17 - U18 age groups will be combined, for example next season the ’98 and ’99 boys will be the U18/19 Division.

Tryouts
Tryouts for the U7 - U14 Boys and Girls will be held in April/May each year. Tryouts for the U15 - U18 season will be held in May/June. All dates will be posted on our website if you want to share them with any players in your community who would be interested in our club.

Glossary

    •    “Player pools” are where all players from the age group train together with several coaches, they rotate through several activities during the training sessions to speed up development. The training at the younger ages is focused on individual development and technique, training to compete with and against is not relevant.

    •    “In House Games” With the large player pool and top class facility at Tuckahoe we can run our own scrimmages, at the younger ages U7 - U10 theres no need for league play, referees and competitive parents/coaches, our in house games are 4v4 for U7 - U8 and 7v7 for U9 - U10 as mandated by US Soccer. There are no referees, silent sidelines and very little communication from coaches. The games are player orientated, they must do the talking and they are free and encouraged to be as creative as possible, have fun with the ball and make their own decisions. We don’t believe in the competitive element that league play brings at U7 - U10 with screaming parents, referees keeping score, league standings and playing to win. We believe in creating talented individuals at that age, there is no rush to get to the EDP and competitive soccer. Players at this age just want to have fun with our any pressure from adults who put their own agenda onto the game of wins, goals, medals and trophies. This does not help players become skillful, technical and creative, a pressure free, loose fun environment does.

    •    “Stations” With a large player pool the players are split into small groups at training and rotate through several stations during the 1.5 hour session. Each station is different and age appropriate training. For example at U10 with 40 players in a pool they will be split into groups of 10, do a ball mastery warm up together then rotate through 1) 1v1’s, station 2) Technical station 3) Small sided game station 4) Combination play station. Stations are 20 minutes each, they see all four coaches at training, things move sharp and to the point, no dead time at training.

    •    “Full Time Staff” John Thompson, Dan Christian, Wayne Grocott who are our Technical Directors and will head up 12 of our 14 age groups from U7-U14 Boys and Girls. Our TD’s have over 20 years experience of coaching and administrating Elite Youth Soccer. The two remaining age groups will be coached by experience SJEB staff.

    •    “Assistant Coaches” Most if not all of our coaching staff are SJEB Youth Academy Alumni or played for the Barons Professional/PDL Team and have a passion for the game and the club and are assigned to our U8-U14 age groups. Our assistant coaches in each age group attend both training sessions, run one of the stations under the guidance of the Head Coach. They are available for all games and attend games assigned by the Head Coach.

    •    “College Coaches” The majority of our older teams are coached by our College Coaches who are on our staff along filled in with SJEB senior staff. The seasons for College and HS is very similar so it helps with their club team schedules. They have a vast knowledge of College soccer, contacts in the college games and can guide our players in the college soccer decision process.

    •    “EDP League” At U11 when the players begin playing 9v9 soccer we enter our teams into the EDP League, which is the top league in our Region outside of USSDA. Clubs in the league have the same philosophy, style of play and structure as SJEB and the emphasis on technical and tactical soccer. Our players begin traveling for games and the games have a competitive element. We don't believe in that element at U7-U10, we believe in creating talented individuals at that age, there is no rush to get to the EDP and competitive soccer. At U7, U8, U9 & U10 (4v4 and 7v7) players will still train in player pools but we will have a team in EDP Flight 1, EDP Flight 2, MAPS Elite and players will be placed on the roster that will suit their current level of play, there will be player movement on our rosters as players develop at different rates at this age. At U13-U14 (11v11) teams will train separate, and player assigned to EDP 1, EDP 2 teams depending on their ability. The coaching staff may do joint session to do some functional training (position specific) if we have multiple teams at that age group.

    •    “Summer” - Summer generally consists of 6-7 weeks of training starting after the Memorial Day weekend. U7 - U12 teams selected from the April/May tryouts start their season in the Summer, take a break the last couple of weeks in July and the first couple of weeks in August then start training again around the third week in August..
